Black silicon carbide is developed at substantial temperature in an electrical resistance kind furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its main raw marterials. Its hardness is between fused alumina and artificial diamond. Mechanical intensity of it is increased than fused alumina. It is brittle and sharp has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree. The abrasives produced of it are suitable for functioning on forged iron, non-ferrous steel, rock, leather-based, rubber, etc. It is also broadly utilized as refractory content and metallurgical additive.
